MARYSVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A Stockton woman has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of her 17-month-old granddaughter in the northstate. Prosecutors say Bonnie Stephen gave methadone pills to the girl at her sister’s home in Yuba County in an attempt to quiet the child. The district attorney originally sought a murder conviction but conceded the evidence probably wasn’t strong enough to prove that charge.
