State Republicans Introduce Immigration Bills

California Republican lawmakers are looking to crack down on illegal immigration and companies that hire illegal immigrants. A total of 20 bills were introduced Tuesday including one that asks the federal government to reimburse the state for the cost of holding illegal immigrants in prison. One bill by Assembly member Mimi Walters would require state agencies to verify new employees’ work eligibility on a federal electronic database. Similar bills have failed to gain traction in previous legislative sessions.
