Overturned Tanker Closes 99 -5:50AM Thursday (Update)

An overturned tanker closes a portion of Highway 99 and the Skyway for hours Wednesday evening. The tanker flipped around 5 p.m. on the onramp to Northbound 99. Chico Fire Inspector Marie Fickert says a passerby saw the tanker flip on its side, and helped pull the trapped driver to safety. The truck was carrying more than 7000 gallons of diesel fuel.

Hazmat crews were called in to cleanup and help transfer the fuel. The CHP says it appears the driver of the rig was driving too fast when the truck overturned. The stretch of Highway 99 was reopened around 11p.m.
