LOS ANGELES (AP) – California officials say the state
unemployment rate shot up half a percentage point to 6.2 percent in
March from the previous month.
The state reported today the ranks of the unemployed have
increased by 84,000 people since February to 1.13 million.
The unemployment rate was 5.7 percent in February and 5 percent

SACRAMENTO (AP) – California prison officials say three clerks
and two supervisors have been cleared of misconduct in the
premature release of former 1970s radical Sara Jane Olson.
Olson was released March 17th from the Central California
Women’s Facility in Chowchilla. She was re-arrested five days later
when it was learned the release was in error.

SACRAMENTO (AP) – California regulators have suspended another
license in their ongoing investigation of sex offenders living with
foster care or daycare providers. The action announced this week brings
to 10 the number of licenses suspended. The investigation began
after a state audit found the addresses of 49 registered sex
offenders matched those of 46 child care facilities throughout the
state.
