While the Chico Unified School District looks at making cuts to its current staff, a proposed program at Chico High School is looking to secure the future of teaching. Chico High School has received a 35-thousand dollar grant from the state office of education for the Teach To Learn Program. Chico High School Teacher Liz Metzler says over the years there has been a number of students showing interest in becoming teachers. The program would entail having high school students work with the Chico State program in which elementary school students are taught by student teachers. Metzler says the school was originally going to implement two specialized electives with the grants, but due to the current budget crisis officials had to rethink the program.
