SACRAMENTO (AP) – The Schwarzenegger administration is proposing
a tax break for banks that lose money on subprime mortgages.
Sources tell the Los Angeles Times that the proposal is one of the
sticking points in the stalled budget negotiations. Supporters say
it would help offset the costs to businesses from possible tax

REDDING, Calif. (AP) – A firefighting airplane under contract to
the U.S. Forest Service made an emergency landing at the Redding
airport when its landing gear failed.
The Forest Service says there were no injuries.
A pilot and a Forest Service firefighting coordinator were on
board the twin-engine Aero Commander owned by Utah-based Kolob
Canyons Air Service.

morning’s public memorial service in Oregon for nine people who
died in a helicopter crash while working at a wildfire in Northern

High heat warnings prompting Tehama County officials to open cooling centers. A cooling center set up in Red Bluff and will be open through Friday. It’s been established at Wetter Hall on Walnut Street. Another one is coming to Corning. Anyone who wants information about signs of heat exhaustion can call Public Health at 527-6824.

WILLIAMS, Calif. (AP) – Two Colusa County waste treatment plants are facing the possibility of millions of dollars in fines for allegedly violating wastewater discharge limits. The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board has issued tentative fines against the Maxwell Public Utilities District and the Williams wastewater treatment plant.
