SACRAMENTO (AP) – A universal health care plan is headed for the
governor’s desk – again.
The bill by state Senator Sheila Kuehl, a Santa Monica Democrat,
would create a state-financed Medicare-for-all style system to
cover all Californians. It cleared the state Assembly yesterday by
a 43-31 vote.
Supporters say it would rein in costs and implement a system
used successfully by other developed countries. Opponents contend
it would lead to delays in medical care.
Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed a version of the bill two years
ago.
