MERLIN, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Forest Service has temporarily suspended its contract with Merlin-based Carson Helicopters. A Sikorsky helicopter provided to the forest service by Carson crashed Aug. 5 in Northern California, killing nine people. The helicopter was being used to fight a California wildfire. One person is dead following a collision with a Big Rig in Red Bluff Thursday. Police say a Cal-Trans Jeep apparently pulled out in front of a Freightliner on Main Street. We now have the name of the woman found dead in a burning Chico garage. Fire crews located the body of 83 year old Catherine Childs Wednesday while responding to a blaze at her home on Waterford Drive.
