U.S. Forest Service Suspends Helicopter Contract

MERLIN, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Forest Service has temporarily suspended its contract with Merlin-based Carson Helicopters. A Sikorsky helicopter provided to the forest service by Carson crashed Aug. 5 in Northern California, killing nine people. The helicopter was being used to fight a California wildfire.
