SACRAMENTO (AP) – The union that represents state workers has
come up with its own budget proposal for California. The state
council of the Service Employees International Union crafted its
plan after state lawmakers failed last week to reach an agreement
to shore up the state’s $11 billion deficit. It’s unlikely the
union’s plan will gain much traction. It doesn’t cut any programs,
it raises taxes by $14.2 billion and relies on $15 billion from the
federal government.
