Police say an Oroville fugitive captured this week may be tied to a Yuba City homicide. The Oroville CHP captured Dewayne Carter on Sunday after he dove into the Sacramento River to avoid arrest. REDDING, Calif. (AP) – Northern California’s Yuba City and Redding had two of the highest unemployment rates in the country in March. Yuba City’s unemployment rate reached 19.5 percent. Three Cottonwood men and a dog hitching a ride on a helicopter, after getting lost in Shasta County. The group was rescued by a CHP helicopter Wednesday. The men were reportedly suffering from mild hypothermia. Authorities say the trio was on a camping trip, but got stranded near Beegum Creek.

Chico Police citing more than 40 drivers in one day for talking on their cell phones. Police say they issued 44 citations Wednesday for drivers violating the state’s hands-free cell phone law. Police say the enforcement campaign was a success…and similar crackdowns will be held in the future.
