More changes to the Chico Police Department. The Chico ER is reporting that the agency is putting several more officers back on patrol after cutting special squads to help trim the budget. The changes include reassigning a gang unit officer, eliminating school resource officers over the summer, and moving 9 community service officers from special assignments. Meanwhile, Chico Police Chief Mike Maloney receiving the Mayor’s Award Tuesday night at the local city council meeting. Mayor Ann Schwab called Maloney’s leadership “exemplary.” Maloney is retiring this month.
