Butte is one of 44 California counties that recently settled its ongoing lawsuit with CVS Pharmacy Incorporated over the illegal disposal of hazardous waste. CVS Pharmacy will pay nearly $14 million. Authorities say a Ventura County judge approved the settlement Wednesday. The Rhode Island-based chain came under investigation two years ago after allegations that it mishandled medical, pharmaceutical and photographic waste at California stores over a seven-year period. The $13.75 million settlement will be shared by prosecutors, fire and environmental health departments from some 45 cities and counties.
