The fight to make college education available to more people in California came to the Chico State campus Thursday. Assemblyman Marty Block has co-authored the so-called Middle Class Scholarship Act, a package of bills aimed at making college more affordable. Part of the legislation would close a tax loophole so corporations doing business out of state would pay more taxes, thereby providing more money for the affordable college plan. The measure goes before the Assembly Higher Education Committee next month, but needs a two thirds vote of the Legislature before it can go to the Governor.
