After the West Nile Virus was detected last week for the first time in Butte County for 2012, officials say virus activity is increasing locally. The Butte County Mosquito and Vector Control District says three groups of mosquitoes have tested positive for the virus in Hamilton City and Richvale. District Manager Matt Ball says so far this year, 26 counties are reporting the virus, compared to 18 last year. He’s urging local residents to eliminate standing water on their property and avoid being outside when mosquitoes are active.
