Motorists are urged to use caution or seek alternate routes up Highway 70 as the Chips Fire continues to burn in the Feather River Canyon area. The fire is burning down back towards Highway 70 which can loosen boulders. Fire Spokeswoman Alissa Tanner says the fire near Belden has burned more than 18,600 acres. As of Thursday night, containment was at 16 percent. The US Forest Service says crews kept the fire within containment lines Thursday despite challenging weather conditions including hot temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity.
