The Chips Fire burning in the Feather River Canyon has grown to more than 31 thousand acres. As of Sunday night, the blaze is 12 percent contained. The US Forest Service says new contingency lines were being established along Highway 89 and north of Humbug Road to protect communities near Lake Almanor. The Chips Fire is threatening 600 homes.
