The Chips Fire near Belden is now 20 percent contained, after burning 57 square miles, or more than 37 thousand acres. The US Forest Service says a thunderstorm over the fire area and erratic winds caused a flare-up Tuesday. The Chips Fire is threatening 940 structures. Fire Information Officer Howard Hunter says the West Lake Almanor area is only under an advisory evacuation. Others are under voluntary or even mandatory evacuation. More than 1,000 fire personnel are fighting the Chips Fire.
