The Ponderosa Fire in Shasta County burning near the towns of Manton, Shingletown, and Viola has grown to nearly 19 square miles as of late Sunday. Containment was at 5 percent. Shasta County officials have declared a state of emergency. The blaze has destroyed seven homes and about 3,000 homes are threatened.
Meanwhile the Mill Fire burning near Butte Meadows has grown to 1600 acres, with containment at 40 percent.
The Chips Fire in the Plumas and Lassen National Forest has scorched more than 47 thousand acres. The US Forest Service says its 32 percent contained. As of Sunday night, evacuations were planned for Canyon Dam and Big Meadows.
