Cal-Fire says crews are making progress containing the Ponderosa Fire, which has already destroyed more than 80 homes and other buildings in Tehama and Shasta counties. As of Thursday night, the fire was 61 percent contained and had burned nearly 28 thousand acres. Cal-Fire says it used hand crews, aircraft, and bulldozers to fight flames in the Battle Creek and Panther Creek drainage Thursday. The agency says the threat to the community of Mineral remains a concern.
Also on the fire front, the Mill Fire near Butte Meadows is 100 percent contained. That blaze has been burning for nearly two weeks and consumed 1600 acres. Cal-Fire says fire crews will continue mopping up the interior of the fire for the next few weeks.
And the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office says an evacuation advisory has been issued for those living in the area of Spanish Ridge, Plaskett Ridge, and Snow Basin due to the North Pass Fire in the Mendocino National Forest. Forest Highway 7 has been closed to all traffic near the area of Telephone Camp. At last report, that fire has burned 2 outbuildings and is 10 percent contained.
