Regarding Steve from MA and your comments this a.m. Trinity United is a christian church. It is not a muslim church and although it had a catholic priest as a guest speaker last week it is not affiliated with the Catholic Church.
I live in Paradise and leave for work @ 5:30 am. Where can I get updated information regarding road closures tomorrow morning.
Thank you so much for your continuos fire update on your website. I live in Paradise and you are my main source of information. You are accurate and timely. Thank you so much
Kudos to you all for your coverage of the Humboldt fire. Your coverage was up to date and the most informative of any I found. I live a block from the canyon and evacuated to Alliance Church. With me, I took a battery operated radio. and your station was what was listened to – again, thank you!!!
Mike Baca has been just terrific during the Humbolt Fire situation! He has been a great source of information for those of us who were evacuating! He was calm–assuring—and had some wonderful stories to add to the whole situation. Again—he is just great!! Thanks Mike!!!
Just heard that the Butte County Public Health Department will be closing the emergency animal shelter established on Morrow Lane in Chico at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15.
If people can’t make arrangements to pick up their animals from that location prior to 5:00 p.m. the animals will be moved to animal shelters throughout the county, and they will be have to contact Butte County Animal Control at 538-7409 on Monday to seek assistance in finding their small pets.
This is unbelievable!! The fire is only 50% contained – people have lost everything – some don’t know whether their home is standing or not and you’re gonna ship their PETS all over the county – have a conscience and keep the shelter OPEN – at LEAST until the fire is completely OUT – give people a CHANCE to get their pets. Have a flippin heart!
I want to thank you for the fabulous and continuous coverage of the Humboldt fire. I live above Magalia and had many friends that were evacuated from Paradise – several came to stay with me – based on suggestions from you to head up the hill if you have friends/family with a spare room. We found that your station had the most extensive coverage of the fire storm and it was critical to keep up to date on the current status. Thank you again sooooo much for your extensive coverage of the fire storm. I could hear how tired you guys were on air. The service you provided was invaluable ! Thanks again for the fabulous job you’ve done over the past several days.
Doreen
I want to thank you for the excellent job you did in providing information about all aspects of the fire.
One of the most frustrating things in a situation like this is trying to get accurate and up to date information. We (myself and two other evacuated families) scoured every source of information available to us – TV, Radio, Internet, Telephone, and Print media. Of all of them, your coverage was the most current and complete. The news was not always “good news”, but we at least felt that we had a realistic sense of what was actually going on.
You provide a vital service. Don’t ever doubt that.
With Gratitude,
David Pierce
Paradise, California
Thank you for your wonderful coverage, on radio, TV, and website. We have friends who are Paradise residents and firefighters, and often your broadcast updates beat their phone calls to us. Please convey, also, our appreciation to all the personnel involved–firefighters, reporters, evacuation teams, shelters and their personnel (human and animal), donators, contributors, don’t leave anyone out. Once again, you and yours have been so wonderfully awesome in your ongoing coverage!
Whatever happened to Terry Jones? He was a great morning host. I like Matt Ray and I am getting used to Scott.
I agree with the other comments regarding fire coverage. It was awesome!!!!
Yes,
I contacted you earlier aboutr getting Concowians help and a refugee camp and you seemed to get the word out but the response by officals was pathetic. The officals sent out buses to transport everyone to shelters in Oroville. All the people at the Skycrest camp want to do is be able to stay and be helped with some food and water and possiblly more tents for shelter. The people at the Skycrest camp want to stay in their community and not 30 miles away down in Oroville. Skycrest Rd is a safe place and has room for the people already there, they should be able to stay and allowed relief of water and food and not be forced to leave to go be packed in like sardines at Las Plumas school.

Is there a way to listen on line? It seems that the nearest on line news broadcast is out of the Bay Area. It would be great to have local news via the Web.
Thanks
I love the coverage on the fires except everyone is using yesterdays “google” maps….for on the spot maps and data that may be refreshing to view, please check out the US Forest Service and Cal-Fire websites at…..

I am totally grateful to all of your staff for your terrific coverage during the fires. My family evacuated from Paradise and stayed with friends in Chico. When I wanted up to the minute news and information, I went out to my car and listened to KPAY on the radio! Thanks for your hard work. Although I am enjoying Matt and Scott in the morning, I’d like to know what happened to Clark Michael…perhaps I missed that announcement. Keep up your fabulous work, you are truly appreciated.

I am a Concow resident and I just finished listening to the updates on the Camp Fire situation. When road closures were mentioned, all that was talked about was Paradise. I am tired of hearing about Paradise all of the time. We get more information and news about Concow’s situuation from Sacramento’s KCRA 3. It has always been this way and is very disappointing that our local news outlets aren’t really giving us the news that we need. When there are disasters in our area and it is affecting both Paradise and the Concow/Yankee Hill areas, Paradise is always put first and made to sound more important. There are MANY more residents in this area that feel the same way.
I am a Concow resident and agree with Jennifer about the lack of coverage for the Camp Fire. However the reason I am writing is because I would like the to find out for sure why the fire dept. is flagging homes up here with either green or red flags.I was told that the green flag mean defendable property and the red flag means non defendable. My whole road was red flagged much to my dismay. Apparently during the day or last night the F.D. came and left a red flag on my gate without even evaluating the property first to see if in fact they could defend it if the fire comes this way.My property as well as all the homes on my road are very well maintained and cleared for fire, if the F.D. had just driven up my driveway they would have seen this for themselves, but instead they blew us off probably thinking we were evacuated ( which we are not) after all, homeowners wouldn’t know the difference if they were gone whether or not the F.D. tried saving their home.My brother’s home received a green flag because his property was so nicely cleared and because the F.D. took the time to evaluate his home first. So any clarification I can get on this matter would be greatly appreciated.Thank You.
I listen to the morning news every morning and I have to say that it is a great show…normally. However, there are times when I cringe at biased opinions shared by news-anchors who are suppose to remain unbiased and objective. For example, your comments a couple of weeks ago about the Chinese government and the disqualified olympic swimmer were shockingly biased and borderline racist. Just this morning Mike Vaca reported on President Bush’s comments Wall Street and ended the report with “He’d know about hangovers.” How can you consider yourself an objective reporter if you are making opinionated jabs like this?
Just one other note, yesterday you questioned NBC’s decision to give Conan O’Brien the Tonight Show. Well, if you had done your homework you would know that Conan has beat Leno AND Letterman in ratings for the last several years. He’s the most popular Night host on TV across the country. Your opinion of the guy does not matter, look at the facts.
My nephew is on leave from Iraq and will be going to Afghanistan in September. He has always been a fan up Michael Savage until Savage insulted my him and his child. Savage said autism is a fraud, a racket.
His daughter is autistic. She was born late and overweight. Her behaviour has been under constant care and treatment since being an abnormal infant.
My nephew told me how irrate he was when he heard Savage say, “Stop with the sensitivity training. You’re turning your son into a girl, and you’re turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men. That’s why we have the politicians we have.”
Why do you broadcast a person like Savage who insults loving parents of autistic children? My nephew has enough on his mind without being told his daughter’s behavior is a fraud.
Leaving Savage on the radio is just tacky on your part. It shows that money is your ultimate goal and you could care less about your listeners.
What happened to the very charming, profesional and mature radio host that I used to hear at 6:00 a.m. every morining. I don’t know his name, but his wife is a teacher, I heard him say that. He was very witty and certainly more cosmopolitian than the rest of that early morning crew.
I miss him! Hope he didn’t go to greener pastures.
Rush Lindbaugh fits right in with the rest of the Pumpkin Headed Hillbillies….he just gets paid more to verbalize that good ole hillbillie attitude.
Mike Baca,
Your left wing liberal bent maskes me ill, and if you love dodger blue so much, why don’t you move there?
You’ll fit right in with the rest of those so. cal JERKS!
Gene Piellusch
If I were station manager at KPAY I would certainly reconsider my association with Michael Savage. His resent comments regarding autistic children were ignorant and dangerous. As the parent of a child with Autism I take Mr. Wieners commentary personally. Life should not be made more difficult for these kids and their families. Why would he want to poison the minds of his listeners against disabled children?. Please do the responsible thing. Stop broadcasting Savage.
Mike Baca
Keep your on air stuff to what you are marginally good at. — “sports”
Quit being the poster boy talking head for the American communist party.
Your pandering to the left wing liberal demo-commies makes me sick.
Stick to sports!
Gene Piellusch
Thanks again to KPAY– and especially Mike Baca for his excellent, up-to-date coverage of the Butte Lightning Complex Fire.
I miss Veronica, Clark Michael, and the man from Red Rock Financial who gave the financial news in the morning! The canned report you replaced him with is a poor substitute! These people added personality to your broadcasts–and are greatly missed.
I think you should make Mike Bacca a regular morning host. Matt Ray and him make a great team!
Leave Baca alone, he’s the man! Hey, I don’t really give a crap what all you losers think about Baca because I know he’s the man in Chico when it comes to sports, politics and life in general. Sure, I don’t agree with him some of the time but y’all need to leave the man alone. If KPAY ever got rid of him, they’d be making a HUGE mistake. He’s controversial, and controversy means money, and these days, money is the number one thing on everybody’s mind. Bottom line is Baca = Cash Money!
HeHe, Shamon!
I think Gene Piellusch needs to take a pill to lower his blood pressure or something. Ease up on Baca there buddy. Just because someone doesn’t agree with your point of view, it doesn’t make him a “liberal demo-commie” whatever that is. But I will agree with you, the uber-conservatives have done a great job of running this country the last eight years. I mean, things couldn’t be better now could they?
I think it would make things a lot less contentious if the audience was clear on what format the 6-9 morning news program is trying to follow . Is it suppose to be a straight-line news program or is it an entertainment morning show? Clark and Terry were funny but much more objective than Matt, Scott, and Baca are. But that may be because the format of the show has changed. Has it?
Baca is funny a lot of the time; not all of the time, but sometimes. He’s certainly not a communist…he makes fun of the Chinese “commies” all the time! However, when he starts criticizing Ben Stiller, well then thats where we have to pat ways my friend. Stiller directed, produced, and acted in one of the funniest films ever; ZOOLANDER! Hello? Baca, have you ever seen that movie? For the record, there is no way you can compare Steven Spielberg and Stiller; their genres are too different. Plus I haven’t seen Spielberg try his hand at comedy lately, and if he did, he’d probably come in a distant second to much of Stiller’s work…except for cable guy, yikes.
One more thing. Savage, really? Did you know that Glenn Beck is #3 in the nation? I don’t have a bone to pick with Savage or you guys for airing his show; free speech is a beautiful thing. But Glenn Beck has a great show and is way more popular across the country than Savage. He’s hilarious and his views would be attractive to a lot of people in the North State. His off-the-cuff style would probably tick off almost as many people as Savage does. The only thing Beck lacks is Savage’s unique ability to be bitter/resentful toward almost everything. I say almost everything because he is quite fond of Subway sandwiches, his little dog, and chinese food…that’s about it.
In regards to a statement made this morning, neither the simpsons or Gunsmoke are the longest running television programs. Both are eclipsed by the long running Science fiction program Doctor who which ran continuously from 1963 to 1989, and has recently returned in 2005 and is still running. The simpsons and gunsmoke are the longest running American primtime show but
oops. i hit the button to early. but they are the longest running american primetime show but doctor who eclipses them both
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that we don’t listen to your morning news anymore since the format has changed, and we really don’t care for the new person with Matt. But we do listen when Rush comes on and then the rest of the day. Thank you for your time.
I have listened to kpay for years and years and am sad to see the loss of Christina Craven. Over the years you could really tell she was the heart and sole of that newsroom. From what Mike Baca and Veronica Carter have said throughout the years she is the one who does all the work. I hate to say it but I think you are making a huge mistake if she in fact is what kept that newsroom together.
