Butte County Reports “High Number” of Air Quality Advisories this Winter

Butte County air quality officials say there were a “high number” of air quality advisories this winter season. Armen Kamian with the local Air Quality Management District says they issued 25 ‘Check Before You Light’ advisories for poor air quality days in the Chico area. Between November and the end of February, there were 23 days over the federal standard for fine particulate matter pollution.  Kamian says starting today, there will be no restrictions on when to use indoor wood stoves and fireplaces.

  1. Try living in Butte Creek Canyon. Many people use old-fashioned fireplaces to heat their homes. Inside a canyon, it gets smokey and bad to breathe the air.
