Man Shot at Paradise Gas Station Dies

The investigation continues into the fatal shooting of a Colorado man Sunday evening by the Highway Patrol in Paradise. It appears 18 year old Christian Valdez was speeding in a stolen car as he headed up Clark Road. CHP Spokesman Justin Maxey says officers set out a spike stip to puncture the vehicles’ tires.  Maxey says Valdez also tried to strike a police vehicle.  Maxey says he hit two cars as he turned into a gas station at Pearson and Clark Roads and that’s when he was shot.  Valdez was taken to Enloe Hospital, where he died Monday morning. His passenger, 19 year old Jose Herrera, was arrested for reported parole violations. The case is under investigation by the Butte County Officer Involved Shooting Team, the Department of Justice, and the CHP.
