CA’s Fiscal Problems Impact Plans for New Chico Courthouse

Plans for a new courthouse in South Chico are in limbo because of state budget problems. The Judicial Council of California recently ruled that all court projects were on hold. That puts the facility in Chico’s Meriam Park in jeopardy despite a fund that once had almost 5 billion dollars for new courthouse construction around the state. Butte County Court Executive Officer Kimberly Flenner says more than 300 million dollars alone was taken out of the fund last year because of the state budget deficit. Many court projects may have to be delayed or cancelled or, like Chico’s, built for less money.
