A federal appeals court in San Francisco
has refused to reconsider a landmark ruling that struck down
California’s ban on same-sex marriages.
The decision by the The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals means
the ban in Proposition 8 stands. Opponents of Prop 8 petitioned the court
in February to review and perhaps reverse the ban on gay marriage instead
of appealing it to the US Supreme Court.
Same sex unions briefly were legal in California before voters
passed Proposition 8 in November 2008.
