West Nile Virus Appears in Butte and Glenn Counties

Glenn County health officials say an Orland area woman has tested positive for West Nile. The virus was discovered after a recent blood donation.  The woman reportedly did not become ill. Meanwhile, the West Nile Virus has also appeared in Butte County this year. The local Mosquito and Vector Control District says a chicken near the Sacramento River by Hamilton City has tested positive for the virus. It’s the first indicator that West Nile is in the county for 2012. Officials are urging residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites and get rid of standing water that can breed mosquitoes.
