Cal-Fire says the Mill Fire near Butte Meadows has burned 1400 acres. As of Wednesday night, it was 15% contained. Officials say the size of the fire increased because of “torching” and “short range spotting.” Cal-Fire Captain Scott McLean says there were limited windows of opportunity to use aircraft to help fight the flames. Cal-Fire says a helicopter had a “rotor strike” on the incident and was forced to land. The aircraft was inspected and was able to return to its base in Vina.
Meanwhile, the Chips Fire near Belden remains 20 percent contained. That fire has blackened more than 42 thousand acres, with full containment projected for the end of the month.
