Cal-Fire says crews are making progress containing the Ponderosa Fire, which has already destroyed more than 80 homes and other buildings in Tehama and Shasta counties. As of Thursday night, the fire was 61 percent contained and had burned nearly 28 thousand acres.  Cal-Fire says it used hand crews, aircraft, and bulldozers to fight flames in the Battle Creek and Panther Creek drainage Thursday. The agency says the threat to the community of Mineral remains a concern.
